Tuhoto-Ariki Pene

Tuhoto’s journey from Rotorua’s local trails to the international downhill stage is nothing short of impressive. Riding from a young age, Tuhoto developed his skills through NZMTBA programmes, where his natural talent, strong work ethic, and grounded character quickly set him apart.

Recognising his potential early, Mikro Foundation is proud to support Tuhoto on his journey as he has worked toward bigger opportunities in the sport.

He has gone on to achieve remarkable success - winning bronze at the 2019 UCI Junior World Championships, securing multiple Crankworx podium finishes, and earning the title of King of Crankworx in 2023. In 2025, he added another milestone by claiming the Elite Men’s Downhill National Championship title on home soil in Rotorua.

Tuhoto’s story is one of commitment, humility, and mana. He brings pride not only to his whānau and iwi, but also to the wider mountain biking community. We’ve watched with admiration as he has grown into a leader both on and off the bike, mentoring younger riders, staying connected to his roots, and competing with heart. He exemplifies the kind of drive and character Mikro Foundation is proud to back.

As a junior rider, let’s be real, it’s much harder to be able to travel, race and afford the expenses. But because of the people that support me, it has been much easier. The easier the trip is the more it benefits me with less stress.
